Ritter Sport Yoghurt

Here we have milk chocolate filled with a white yogurt crème. It comes in a white foil, just like the fillinf is supposed to be – or as plain yoghurt usually looks like. This is another Ritter edition I did not like when I was younger – yughurt and chocolate just did not work together for me. Today, this is really different, and so this one is one of the basic Ritter chocolates, I really have to review! It is available since 1971.  The ingredient list seems to be alright, but not too great. You see that cocoa butter and cocoa mass are not really dominating the chocolate… otherwise, nothing on the list I would rather not see in a chocolate: sugar, vegetable fat, skimmed milk yoghurt powder (12%), cocoa butter, cocoa mass, cream powder, skimmed milk powder, sweet whey powder, lactose, clarified butter, emulsifying agent: lecithin (soya), natural flavourings

The smell is just like usual milk chocolate – you would not expect a yogurt filling to be in there. On the inside, the scent is slightly sour, but the chocolate dominates the scent here as well.

The chocolate is soft and smooth and the filling is just a little smoother than the coating. If you bite on it before it starts to melt in your mouth, the texture provides a small crisp, just because of the comparable solid coating. When you put it in the fridge, it will be really solid, but the filling starts to crumble and loses its creaminess. I prefer the smooth filling, so I’d leave it out of the fridge.

The taste of the yogurt crème has hardly any unique flavor as the milk chocolate taste is really intensive, but it is sour and takes some of the usual sweetness of the milk chocolate away. It is feels really fresh, but not too yogurt-like. And even though I cannot really identify it as yoghurt like for example the strawberry yogurt version (up to come later!), I like it. The sourness makes it unique, most of the time the sour bytaste of yoghurt is taken aback by another flavor, but in this chocolate, there is no other component to weaken the taste of it. Simple but delicious!
